Default what to do.. horrible.

What are you supposed to do??
When your girlfriend loves to sing and its.. the most horrifying sound ever. And she wanted to become a proffessonal singer so whenever i mention anything i get heavily scolded :-| What do you even do?!?! It makes me cringe and ive told her i didnt like it but she wont stop. Ah the things we do for love.

Since you haven't stuffed her in a burlap bag, one can only assume you love her very much.

Keep doing something that annoys her and say that what you are doing is just something you love to do.

I'm one of those lucky people surrounded by loving friends and family who slap me silly when I try to sing

PieXags is right. If you can't be honest with her and she won't take your honesty as a good thing, then maybe she's not the girl for you. Relationships of any sort are build on honesty. Without it, they're hollow and useless.

Nah. I think it's endearing.
I suspect it's NOT so unbearable that it's spoiling the whole relationship - he's just mentioning it for laughs. Synthos said it best, "The things we do for love." Sounds like he's resigned to just living with it. It's just endearing.
My ex-girlfriend used to complain about my snoring, and I would complain about how I couldn't sleep because her leg always twitched at night kicking me in the process. Now we are separated on opposite coasts of the US but still talk. And we both confess that we miss those little annoyances about each other.

If he really loves her he'd miss her "awful" singing if they ever broke up (heaven forbid).

Then again.... if it's really, really bad.... hmm.... tough one....

Tell her to shut up or you're going to leave her.

You probably don't want to do that if this is a girl who's contemplating a professional career since you're only giving her an excuse to cut her ties and move on.

If you can't live with it just leave without the ultimatum.

But, if you want to follow ExplosiveBadger's rationale, it'd probably be a little more effective to smack her around a bit (j/k).

what qualifications do you posses, that would allow you to make the determination that her voice is horrible....any, some, none?.....let her a pro to tell her that she is either good or no good. it may be you have a tin ear. until then encourage her if you really want to be with her and if not get the hell out.

LOL! Right on, OWD!

Just one question: Has she ever made a CD of herself singing acappella (sp?)? If not, might want to have her do that and then listen to it. If it's as bad as you say, then even she won't be able to escape it.

Maybe you could suggest a comedy routine?

And, as someone else said, maybe it's not that bad and is something sort of endearing to you. Might ask her what she thinks you do that's annoying. You two might have a ground breaking conversation.

Stopping someone from singing - doing what they love = cruel. If you guys can't reach a compromise maybe you shouldn't be together. One compromise - sing in a different room. Other compromise - go to another room yourself.

Another compromise: A nanoPod with 500 songs on it that is unobtrusively attached to your ears. SHE sings, you're listening....but to someone else....she's smiling at you smiling thinking she's da bomb!
